phpInDev is a website about my php related projects and other web related things, such as tutorials and templates. The main idea of phpInDev is to provide me a simple web platform to release my projects in one place, rather than having separate websites for all my different work, which are hardly worth a website of their own.
In addition to providing a place to release my software, it also works as a showcase of what I'm capable of, and gives insight about my field of expertise. It's considerably easier to simply refer everyone to a single place when they ask you what you are capable of.
Of course, working on websites is something that I enjoy, which is the main reason I even bother to work on this and recreate the site so often. Over the years, phpInDev or what is has been before, has gone through numerous designs and changes in ideology. You can find more about the history of this website below.
As you may guess from the name, the main focus of phpInDev is to concentrate on php related projects and provide PHP related material, like tutorials and also possibly website templates to use. Most of the other stuff on this website are not really actively developed, but are there mostly because a lot of people still need for them.
I'm just a simple guy from Finland. My real name is Ville Kalliomäki, which is quite typical Finnish name. Ever since I first started hanging around the internet, I've used the nick Rithiur everywhere I go. To this day, noone else has used this nick and if you happen to do a google search on it, pretty much all the results are somehow related to me. The nick originates from a medieval themed fantasy world I used to develop for roleplaying purposes when I was younger.
Though I don't like divulge too much information about me, I can tell much that I was born in 1987, which means I turn 21 this year. I live in the capital area of Finland and am currently studying in a degree programme in information and communications technology. If you wish to learn more than these few generic facts, you'll have to come to talk to me.
Even though the website called "phpInDev" is not considerably old, there have been many websites before it, that have been quite similar. The very first website I created for releasing my work was SimpleVP, a website for releasing tables I had created in Visual Pinball. This happened somewhere around summer in 2001, I think. I did get bored of that rather quickly and moved on, though.
The website was soon followed by another called Vikaworks, which was founded in the autumn of the same year. The purpose of that site was to release my games made with Game Maker, though I never made anything worth calling a game. In the summer next year, 2002, I replaced the site with IdeaWork Productions website, which also had similar theme but was slightly about PHP as well.
The IdeaWork Productions website lasted for quite long, and I kept updating it little by little over the years when I had time to work on something and to actually put it on the website. It wasn't until in the spring of 2004 that I decided it was time to re-evaluate my work and put it under a new name, Rithiur Scripts.
Rithiur Scripts lasted also for quite long and was generally one of my better sites. At the launch I re-evaluated my work and removed all that I wasn't satisfied with. I decided it was time to improve the general quality of my work, which became the main goal of Rithiur Scripts. Rithiur Scripts website was rewritten quite a few times with different systems and templates as I learned more about PHP and web design in general.
In late 2007 I decided it was time again for do over. This time the motivation was to move away from other stuff and provide a platform, which would be more concentrated on PHP related stuff, as that has turned out to be what I'm quite good at. Thus phpInDev was launched in october of 2007 and is still running today. Currently I have no plans to scrap this website.
