Welcome to Rust Sidebar
Rust sidebar is browser sidebar designed to make stat searching much more convenient while playing RuneScape. Not only is it designed for players but also for webmasters, who wish to integrate a feature like this into their website. For more information see the about page. 15th November 2007 - Rust v4 with plenty of goodies.
Rust has gone through yet another major update! This update is all about new features on the sidebar. Here's what's new on the sidebar itself:
In addition, there have been quite a few changes on the website itself, such as updates to the highscore history (there is no list of personal history for each listed character), some changes to the statistical info pages and also a new RuneScape RSS news feed. As you may notice, there is currently only one single skill calculator available on the sidebar. Creating the calculators is slow due to data collection. If you wish to help, see this forum topic Thanks to Leetspace and others for these new ideas and especially the inspiration to work on these. It has taken quite long to get these features online. This is because adding these features to Rust required major recoding of the backend, which always takes time. Rust was never intended to grow this "big" when I started it. Just keep using it, and enjoy the new features! 9th October 2007 - A "short" downtime.
Sorry about that downtime. It was, uhh. unexpected. And totally unavoidable. However, Rust Sidebar is now back, and hopefully doesn't go down too soon again. I'm afraid all the data was lost due to the downtime and I can't be bothered to attempt to recover, since it wouldn't be much use anyway. I bet anyone using any signatures or anything from this website already changed their "provider". I know I said I might be abandoning this project on the forum, but I have decided not to, and will continue to improve this. I hope to make this website succesful again, regardless of any other website operating. Anyway, enjoy. 16th April 2007 - And we're back.
Gah, some hosts are just very nice. Anyway, Rust is back up and working now. If you encounter any problems, please let me know immediately, so that I may fix them. I attempted to test everything, though, but I can't always be sure of everything. If you are wondering about what happened to rust in past few days then let me explain. Rust is hosted by a friend of mine (as you may guess from the url). His host, however, decided that it would be fun to switch the server hosting his website without letting him know. For reasons unkown, this resulted in downgraded PHP version (which caused the errors in Rust) and malfunctioning FTP accounts (which is why I was unable to access the Rust website for few days). On top of it all, that friend of mine, lost his internet connection just few days before and he was unable to respond too fast. Thankfully, he went to internet cafe today to set me up a FTP account, which allowed me to fix this site :) With the physical server switch, there was some data loss. Data from few days of time was lost for unknown reasons. This apparently has led to some signatures disappearing from the website, so if you had set up signatures here and they stopped working, just recreate them. I apogolize for the inconvenience. I hope this does not happen again. 28th March 2007 - Rust version 3!
Welcome to the Rust version 3! Rust has gone through number of updates swith the new version number. Main emphasis with v3 was website integration and better webmaster support. Based on RSHiLib v3 - While this is not really too significant on the outside, but the parser library has been completely rewritten. This does marginally improve the speed of Rust, but only marginally. Better signatures - On the signature images page, there are plenty of more choices available on creating signature, such as choosing skill and the look. Rust XML - Rust XML is feature aimed at webmasters. Basically, it allows you to retrieve RuneScape highscore related data from Rust website in XML form. Highscore history - Rust will start tracking historical data for highscores on weekly basis. This way you can follow progress of top people in each skill. New looks - Rust supports now having multiple different looks for the sidebar. Also, if you are running a website or something similar, and want to have Rust Sidebar in a frame, you can also have your own stylesheet in Rust Sidebar! Oh, and I went ahead and changed around how different numbers are calculated on the website. The result? I had to reset stats again. There's also some bugs fixed (which you probably didn't know existed). 9th September 2006 - Sig images fixed
There was a bug in the signature image system, which caused the images to load fail (it was just my mistake while uploading. Forgot to change the settings to server's instead of my local dev environment :P). Anyway, the signature images work again. Sorry for the interruption. (Hint: These get fixed, if someone actually tells me about these errors) 5th September 2006 - Host switch
After getting a "treathening" letter from my previous host about my usege of space (the database structure sucked), I decided to switch hosts. This host has MySQL support, so it shouldn't be a problem anymore. For users this doesn't really mean all that much, besides the fact that urls have changed. The old site will still redirect here for quite some time, however, so no worries. The change of version number brings mostly internal changes, as the code was switched from flatfile based database to MySQL based one. In addition, the user's page also now displays a guess for combat level! (however, it's only a guess, based on available stats, and the formula is probably not accurate). Oh, and due to the new database structure, I reseted the stats, because I was too lazy to convert them from the old. Thanks for the first 100'000 searches, anyway! Keep making Rust more popular! 4th July 2006 - Rust 2.3 notes
Rust was updated to version 2.3, which contains mostly internal changes, and few real changes that will display to users. Here are all the changes to rust website 2.3:
I'm currently a bit worried about the database format, as it pretty much uses too many files. Might have to go around changing that at some point (I wish I had MySQL). 29th June 2006 - Welcome to new Rust Website
Welcome to the new Rust website. I decided to create a whole website for Rust because the project has many related things that I wanted to display, and the sidebar itself is quite bad place to put any more information than there already is, as my goal is to try to keep the sidebar as clean as possible without too much any clutter. On this website, you can view information about the Rust itself, such as statistics regarding the search (I've recently improved the statistical gathering of Rust). You can also find link to discussion forum about Rust where you can post your questions and suggestions (no registeration required). There is completely new feature to Rust, which is not really related to the sidebar itself. It is a RuneScape signature image. Basically, it's a handy way to promote rust in your signature, but also provides you with something nice to use. The image itself just contains the character name, overall skill level, experience and rank. And all this in traditional UserBar fashion. I hope you like it. Note: There was bug concerning the UserBar forum signature images. The bug has been fixed now, and the images should draw as they were meant to be. |
